Job Title: Assistant Accountant
Office location: London, Waterloo
Reporting to: Head of Accounting Services, within Business Services Team
To start in September 2021
About our Business Services Team:
The Business Services Team provides French companies with a comprehensive range of services: contact address & phone line for non-resident companies, practical advice to set up a subsidiary in the UK, full accounting support, payroll services, VAT registration and management. The role of the Department is to carry out to the highest standard the outsourcing work for our diverse portfolio of clients.
The Team includes a significant Accounting Services Team, made up of 8 Accountants who deliver the full range of accounting support to our clients. This role is to manage the accounts of a portfolio of clients.
Key areas of responsibility:
- Outsourcing accountancy
• Ensure that all the information necessary to process the monthly management accounts of the Outsourcing clients is received on time
• Input in Accounting package all the data received from clients
• Ensure the management accounts of the Outsourcing clients are produced on time and accurately
• Produce accounts up to trial balance
• Assist Outsourcing clients with general administration tasks
• Deal with incoming queries regarding the monthly management accounts
• Ensure a friendly yet professional relationship with clients
• Attending meetings between the potential client (French SME) and the partners of the French Chamber (lawyers, auditors, etc) after validation of the project.
- VAT return
• Complete the quarterly VAT return form on the behalf of the Outsourcing clients
• Submit the completed and signed form to HM Customs and Excise online
- Coordination between the Outsourcing Department and the parent company in France
• Produce the monthly management accounts for all clients and send them
• Liaise with the parent company in France in regards to any queries they may have regarding the management accounts or any other matter
- Coordination between the Department and its clients / potential clients
• Answer queries by phone or email on setting up a business in the UK and send all the relevant information to potential clients
• Set up and follow up new clients
• Liaise with HMRC
• Liaise with any other necessary supplier in order to assist the company in starting up a business in the UK as quickly and as smoothly as possible
• Assisting Auditors when visiting the Chamber to carry out an audit on the behalf of our clients
- Other
• Updating the databases: input accurate data into database, Opera etc
• Assist the Accounts and Outsourcing department to prepare reports / presentations / Accounts
• Depending on the existing workload, other projects may be given by within the Business Services Team
• Manage archiving (paper & electronic)
• Write procedures if necessary
• Attend weekly meetings and generate monthly operational reporting
• To cover the workload of other Assistant Accountants during their absence
EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES
• Educated to degree level, preferably in Accounting and Finance (equivalent to BTS Comptabilité Gestion or DUT Gestion des Entreprises et Administration) or any relevant experience in the accounting field.
• Experience in nominal ledger, sales ledger, purchase ledger and cashbook, knowledge of VAT declaration
• Excellent credit control skills
• At least 1 year work experience
• Knowledge of Accounting package: sage, xero, pegasus opera would be an advantage
• Strong team player
• Commercial awareness desirable
• Bilingual French/English desirable
• Knowledge of French business culture/market desirable
About the position:
• Our working hours are Monday to Friday 09.00-17.00.
• We offer a hybrid working model and the Assistant Accountant will be required to attend our office in Waterloo, London on a weekly basis.
• The right to work in the UK is a requirement for this role
Remuneration Package:
- 4% pension after 3 months
- Private Medical Insurance and Income Protection Insurance after 3 months of service
- Holidays: 25 days per annum in addition to 3 days of holiday at Christmas
- Salary based on experience
- Bonus
